UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones next title defense against Dan Henderson has been penciled in for September 1st at UFC 151.
That was the word from UFC president Dana White prior to last weekend’s FOX show, though at this stage it’s still a tentative booking.
It had originally been suggested that Jones Vs Henderson could have fronted the UFC 149 show in Canada on July 21st, but this plan was quickly scrapped when Jones manager indicated that the champion wanted some time off before his next fight and was aiming for an August or September return to action.
Henderson stands as one of the few obvious challenges remaining to Jones at 205lbs after his recent string of title fights which has seen him brush past a who’s who of the division including former champion’s Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Lyoto Machida and most recently Rashad Evans.
Despite now being 42 years-of-age Henderson remains a credible threat though and is currently enjoying one of the best spells of his entire career, including becoming the Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion, defeating Fedor Emelianenko at heavyweight and then returning to the UFC to claim a ‘Fight Of The Year’ win over ‘Shogun’ Rua.
