UFC 188 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 188 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

An entertaining three round battle between Yair Rodriguez and Charles Rosa was awarded ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors on this occasion, with the former really putting on a show with his flashy kicks on the feet and submission savvy, while Rosa remained doggedly determined throughout and threatened to steal the fight with his wrestling towards the end.

As you might expect, the UFC’s new undisputed heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus for defeating Cain Velasquez, looking assured with his striking, appearing to have greater energy reserves and then smoothly locking up a third round guillotine choke to win the belt and start a new era in the division.

Patrick Williams also banked a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus after he notched up the quickest submission in UFC & WEC bantamweight history, locking in a guillotine choke that would render Alejandro Perez unconscious in just 23 seconds.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
