UFC 194 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 194 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the co-main event middleweight title fight between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman which proved to be every bit as exciting as fans had been hoping.  The first couple of rounds were competitive, but the challenger Rockhold took the fight by the scruff of the neck on the mat in the later stages of the third, bloodying up Weidman with ground and pound and then really unloading when he achieved full mount.  The ref could have stopped it right then, but he gave Weidman every chance and so he made it to the end of the round.  He was in big trouble though, and in the fourth Rockhold was able to take him down again and finish what he’d started to win by TKO and become the new UFC middleweight champion.

Conor McGregor’s stunning 13 second knockout of Jose Aldo rightly earned him a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus, perfectly timing a crisp left hook to the jaw as Aldo lunged forward with his own punch, leading to him going face first onto the canvas.   An incredible moment to see the 10 year unbeaten Brazilian felled like that so quickly, and so McGregor has backed up everything he said he would do and is now the featherweight champion!

Also earning a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus was Leonardo Santos who produced an unexpected TKO victory over Kevin Lee, flattening him with a right hand counter before finishing the job with ground and pound.
