UFC 202 Gets Johnson Vs Teixeria And Cerrone Vs Story

Two major bouts have just been added to the UFC 202 event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 20th.

First up, a light-heavyweight fight between Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson and Glover Teixiera that was originally scheduled for UFC On FOX 20 on July 23rd has now been rescheduled for this event.

Personal problems reportedly kept ‘Rumble’ from sticking to that previous date, but he’ll be back a month later as he looks to earn another title shot at 205lbs.

Since losing to current champion Daniel Cormier just over a year ago, Johnson has got back to winning ways with KO victories over both Jimi Manuwa and Ryan Bader, and many people feel he would be the best match-up for Jon Jones if he regains his title at UFC 200.

Teixeira is in a similar position, being just one place behind Johnson in the rankings and also hoping to get a second bite at the cherry in terms of a title shot.

In the past year Teixeira has put together a three-fight winning streak, taking out Ovince St. Preux, Patrick Cummins and Rashad Evans inside the distance.

Meanwhile, another high profile bout announced for the UFC 202 sees Donald Cerrone continue his welterweight campaign against Rick Story.

Cerrone is fresh off an impressive performance against Patrick Cote just over a week ago. That’s his second win in a row at 170lbs since moving up following an unsuccessful bid to take the lightweight title from Rafael dos Anjos.

For his third test in his new weight class he’ll face off against Story, who returned to action after a two year absence last month with a unanimous decision victory against Tarec Saffiedine, leaving him on a three-fight unbeaten stretch in the division.

So, the UFC 202 line-up is now shaping up nicely, and of course this is guaranteed to be another blockbuster event for the promotion as it will be headlined by a rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
