Following yesterday’s UFC FIght Night 165 event in South Korea the recipients of the $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors on this occasion was Charles Jourdain and ‘The Korean Superboy’ Doo Ho Choi.
The two offensively-minded strikers were throwing heat from the start, but while Choi seemed to have the bigger power, Jourdain was the more dynamic and aggressive of the two, fighting with reckless abandon at times.
That fighting style paid off for Jourdain as he dropped him late in the first round and then late in the second round he did so again with a clean straight left to the chin followed by a right hook felling him and follow-up strikes on the mat sealing the upset TKO victory.
‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung earned himself a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award after completely dismantling short-notice replacement Frankie Edgar in the main event.
TKZ’s firepower proved to be too much for Edgar to handle early in the fight as he wobbled him in an exchange within the opening minute and then soon after floored him for the first time.
Edgar showed great heart to keep fighting on despite eating further punishment on the mat, but when he struggled to his feet he was quickly put back down again with more punches and soon after the ref moved in to wave off the fight and give TKZ and impressive TKO victory.
Also earning a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was Alexandre Pantoja, who registered a first round knockout victory over Matt Schnell in the opening round of their prelim fight after he caught his opponent with a counter right that dropped him, followed by a single punch on the mat.
