The final numbers are in for Saturday night’s ‘UFC On FOX 9’ event and show that 2.83 million viewers tuned in, delivering a 1.2 ratings for adults 18-49.
That’s up 420,000 viewers from the overnight ratings we brought you on Sunday, leaving the event 6th out of the nine events on FOX so far.
Earlier in the evening the preliminary action on FOX Sports 1 drew 613,000 viewers, the lowest lead-in ever for a UFC event on ‘big’ FOX. There’s no doubt that FX was a better platform for the FOX prelims and that could be one of the reasons the event failed to make a significant impact on this occasion.
The fight card probably had the most to do with it though as the lighter weight classes don’t tend to draw a crowd as easily as the heavier ones do, and thanks to injuries the line-up consisted solely of flyweight, bantamweight and lightweight fighters.
On the plus side, those who did tune in were rewarded with ample evidence as to why these fighters deserve their place on the big stage, at least in the case of the main and co-main event of the evening which both provided thrilling finishes courtesy of Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson (KO) and Urijah Faber (Submission).
The UFC and FOX will no doubt be hoping for a better performance on the ratings front in January though when they roll out their 10th live event which is headlined by former lightweight champ and FOX regular Ben Henderson Vs Josh Thomson.
