A middleweight fight between Vitor Belfort and Gegard Mousasi has been targeted for the upcoming UFC 204 event, which is expected to take place in Manchester, England on October 8th.
The 39 year-old Belfort is coming off a first round TKO loss to Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza last time out at UFC 198 in Brazil.
That marked his second loss in his last three fights, though in fairness, the other defeat was in a title encounter with the champion at the time, Chris Weidman, who also TKO’d him in the opening round at UFC 187 last year.
Sandwiched inbetween those two fights was a first round KO victory over Dan Henderson, and looking through a wider lens, ‘The Phenom’ has won four of his last six bouts in the Octagon.
Now he fights the 30 year-old Mousasi, who’s coming into this match-up on a high after claiming two victories in a row.
Most recently, he took out late replacement Thiago Santos by KO at the UFC 200 event, earning a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus at the historic show, while prior to that he’d also defeated Thales Leites by decision at UFC Fight Night 84 earlier in the year.
Belfort Vs Mousasi is expected to serve as the co-main event at UFC 204 beneath the still to be officially announced 185lb rematch between current champion Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson.
With UFC 204 now appearing to be locked down for October 8th, that means 11 of the next 12 weekends will play host to UFC events.
