A light-heavyweight fight between Volkan Oezdemir and Nikita Krylov has been announced as the co-main event for UFC fight Night 180 at Fight Island on October 17th.
A former title contender at 205lbs, Oezdemir has only mustered a 2-3 record in the UFC since his loss to the champion at the time, Daniel Cormier back in 2018.
Worse still, Oezdemir is coming off a KO defeat against Jin Prochazka back in July during the UFC’s last visit to Fight Island, but on a more positive note he had racked up back-to-back wins over Ilir Latifi and Aleksander Rakic prior to that.
As a result, Oezdemir heads into this fight ranked No.7 in the division, two spots above his opponent Krylov, who has gone 2-2 since returning to the UFC in 2018.
Along the way he’s defeated Ovince Saint Preux by submission and most recently fought to a unanimous decision victory over Johnny Walker in March.
Oezdemir and Krylov will serve as the lead in to the UFC Fight Night 180 main event featherweight fight between Brian Ortega and The Korean Zombie on a card that will also feature the likes of former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade vs. Kaitlyn Chookagian and a heavyweight clash between Cyril Gane vs. Shamil Adbdurakhimov.
