What’s now become a grudge match between Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens has been rescheduled for UFC On ESPN 6 in Boston on Friday, October 18th.
The fight, which originally headlined UFC Fight Night 159 last weekend, but only lasted 15 seconds due to Stephens suffering an eye poke that left him unable to continue, will now take the co-main event spot on the card, underneath a main event that sees Chris Weidman moving up to 205lbs to fight Dominick Reyes.
Since the fight was waved off Rodriguez has accused Stephens of faking the injury and confronted Stephens in a hotel lobby later that night, while Stephens shoved him away and has stated that he suffered scratches to both his eyes in addition to bruising, but has no permanent damage.
Both fighters have made it clear they are eager to run the fight back and so it’s good that they’ll get their chance sooner rather than later, and there will now be a great deal more interest in the fight than there was before due to the increased intensity of the rivalry between the two.
Rodriguez had gone into the fight on a high after having KO’d The Korean Zombie with an upwards elbow in the final second of their headliner back in November of last year, while Stephens was looking to bounce back from losses against Zabit Magomedsharipov and Jose Aldo.
