Yoel Romero Wants To Fight Anderson Silva For Interim 185lb Title

UFC No.1 middleweight contender Yoel Romero isn’t happy about having been left out in the cold while current champion Michael Bisping takes a superfight with Georges St-Pierre instead of him, but he has a proposal for a major bout he could undertake in the meantime.

“A fight with Anderson [Silva] would be great,” Romero suggested on The MMA Hour radio show this week. “It would be great for the fans; it would be great for me. And a fight for an interim title would be really good in general.

“I’ve already fought and beat everyone else. The only person that is amongst those great stars is Anderson. Because we also have to play with the same plans of St-Pierre. At this moment, this is almost like a chess match.”

“If you look the top five, six guys at middleweight, everybody’s busy. The only ones free of any commitment is Anderson and myself.”

Currently ranked No.7 in the weight-class, Silva got back to winning ways by way of a controversial decision against Derek Brunson last time out, bue he hasn’t exactly been showing the form of a title contender overall, having gone five fights prior to that without a victory.

For his part, the 41-year-old Silva had also been talking in recent days about who he would like to fight next, but it seems that at that stage Romero wasn’t in his plans.

“Because with Nick [Diaz], it was a no contest, we have a story to tell, I’ll wait for you in Brazil [at UFC 212].

And I’m waiting for you, Mr. [Michael] Bisping, after your fight with GSP.”
