Former two-time PFL lightweight champion Kayla Harrison proved the doubters wrong when she managed to successfully cut down to 135lbs for her UFC debut against Holly Holm at UFC 300 in April, a fight she’d gone on to win convincingly by submission.
Even so, the 34-year-old has admitted that she’s dreading the thought of cutting down to the bantamweight limit again after having piled back on the pounds in recent months.
“I don’t hover (around 135lbs) very well after my fight,” Harrison confessed on The MMA Hour show. “I told myself ‘Don’t get out of control’ and then I had surgery and then I got an infection and then it was my birthday and so things got a little out of control but I’m back on the plan.
“After my surgery and the infection, I didn’t even want to weigh myself because I could just feel how swollen I was but I got back up to my judo weight which was 170lbs.
“Yes (I am dreading it). It is really hard.”
With only one UFC fight under her belt the former two-time Olympic judo gold medalist has already been fast-tracked to No.3 on the UFC’s bantamweight rankings and she’s now waiting for her next opponent to be announced.
“Hopefully I’ll have an announcement soon. Yeah (we’re getting close). It’s not locked in I don’t think, but it’s locked in, you know what I mean?
The bantamweight’s are in a world of f****** hurt.”
