Bellator 145 Results

Bellator 145 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.

In the main event the featherweight title changed hands as Daniel Straus finally earned a win over Patricio Freire at the third attempt.

After a close first round the fight really crackled to life at the mid-point of the second when Straus dropped Freire with a straight left. With Freire now clearly hurt the momentum swung in Straus’ favor and he capitalized with a good third round.

Freire was still hanging on in there and as the fourth round progressed it became apparent that Straus had broken his left hand and Freire was getting his second wind. That led to a thrilling fifth round as Freire took Straus down and tried for a rear-naked choke, but he couldn’t find the finish and they ended the dying seconds of the bout slugging it out on the feet. So, a spirited late comeback from Freire, but Straus’ work in the earlier rounds was enough to ensure he won by unanimous decision (48-47 x2, 49-46) to become the new Bellator featherweight champ.

In the co-main event the lightweight championship was on the line and Will Brooks successfully managed to defend his belt with a unanimous decision win over Marcin Held.

Not as eventful as the other title fight on the night, Brooks controlled the action for long spells with takedowns and long spells on top, getting to full mount a couple of times and shaking off a few submission attempts along the way to earn a convincing decision win (50-45, 49-46 x2).

Former 155lb champ Michael Chandler was also in action and beat up David Rickels with ground and pound for the best part of two rounds, leaving him covered in blood by the time the TKO stoppage came at 3.05mins of the second round.

Elswhere on the main card Bobby Lashley made short work of James Thompson, appearing to hurt his opponents knee as he fell awkwardly during a takedown, then took his back and landed ground and pound for the TKO stoppage in just 54 seconds, while earlier Emmanuel Sanchez eeked out a split decision win over Justin Lawrence.
