Benoit Saint Denis Got the better of a high-octane first round against Ismael Bonfim tonight at UFC On ESPN 48 to emerge with a submission victory.
Round One:
Huge body kick from Saint Denis to start and Bonfim responds with a punch. Bonfim swinging for the fences and motioning for Saint Denis to come at him.
Saint Denis with another big kick. Bonfim misses a punch and Saint Denis takes advantage to swoop in and take him down.
Saint Denis smoothly into mount, but then Bonfim manages to roll on top. Saint Denis able to work back to his feet though.
Big kick from Saint Denis and a heavy punch lands from Bonfim in return. Bonfim connecting and Saint Denis opts to work into the clinch and tries for a takedown that doesn’t work out.
They separate and Bonfim is looking threatening again with his power punches. Saint Denis back into the clinch against the cage and works around to the back looking to drag him to the mat. Bonfim goes to the canvas turtled up.
Saint Denis rolls onto his back working for a rear-naked choke. Bonfim defending for now. Saint Denis with punches and then goes for the choke. It’s not quite in yet, but he adjusts and then it does look tighter and Bonfim taps out!
