Chris Weidman Vs Kelvin Gastelum To Headline UFC On FOX 25

A major middleweight clash between Chris Weidman and Kelvin Gastelum will headline UFC On FOX 25 in Uniondale, New York on July 22nd.

Just a couple of years ago Weidman was on top of the world as the UFC’s middleweight champion, having defeated a string of legends, including Anderson Silva (twice), Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort.

However, Weidman’s career has hit the rocks since then, starting with losing his title after being TKO’d by Luke Rockhold in December of 2015.

His attempts to get back on track since then have failed, with Yoel Romero TKO’ing him back in November of last year and then Gegard Mousasi doing likewise in somewhat controversial fashion in April of this year.

Now Weidman faces another tough test against a surging Gastelum, who has been making a big impact at middleweight since being forced up last year due to repeated weight cutting issues at welterweight.

Gastelum dismantled Tim Kennedy late last year and then TKO’d Vitor Belfort in March, though that latter win has since been amended to a no-contest after he tested positive for marijuana metabolites on the day of the fight.

Gastelum was handed a three-month suspension for that positive test and was also forced out of a fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 212 as a result, but now he has another big fight lined up that could help him continue to climb towards title contention at 185lbs.
