Darren Till put himself firmly on the map tonight with a first round demolition of Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC Fight Night 118.
Round One:
The main event of the evening is underway in Poland!
Cerrone misses with an early leg kick. Till takes the center of the Octagon though and starts to press forward. Cerrone tries for a takedown, but Till stuffs it nicely.
Till connects with punches. Now a head kick attempt and a leg kick. He looks very confident here and looks sharp.
However, Cerrone goes for the takedown again and this time he lands it. However, Till is straight back upright again. Cerrone stays in the clinch until Till manages to get free from that and back to striking range.
Till landing to the head again. He’s using his reach well. Another straight left connects. Till looks significantly bigger than ‘Cowboy’.
Body kick for Cerrone. He tries for a side kick to the body. Nice clipping punch for Cerrone. Right and a left hand now as he keeps the veteran guessing.
Nice body punch from Cerrone. Leg kick for him now. Back to the body kick. However, then Till lands a two-piece combo that buckles ‘Cowboy’s’ legs momentarily.
Not letting him off the hook, Till works an elbow and begins unleashing repeated left and right hands that are connecting. Cerrone is struggling under this sustained assault and sinks to the mat, unable to do anything but cover up as more punches rain down and the referee rushes in to end the fight, with the TKO finish coming at 4.20mins of the first round.
Hugely impressive display from Till there that proves he can still look just as impressive when the level of competition increases, and that makes him a series threat in the 170lb ranks.
As for Cerrone, it’s been a hugely disappointing 2017 campaign for him with three losses in a row on his record and he’ll now have to contemplate whether it’s time to drop back down to lightweight next time out.
