Derek Brunson KO’s Lyoto Machida In Opening Round At UFC Fight Night 119

Derek Brunson slayed ‘The Dragon’ Lyoto Machida tonight at UFC Fight Night 119 with a first round knockout in the main event of the evening in Brazil.

Round One:

The main event of the evening is underway in Sao Paulo, Brazil!

Brunson with a couple of early leg kick attempts that don’t find the target. Not much happening so far as Machida stays on the outside from his karate stance, while Brunson looks for ways to close the distance.

Nice left-hand counter from Machida as Brunson comes forward, but it doesn’t connect cleanly.

Brunson stalking and though Machida connects with a left hand, it’s Brunson who then unleashes a huge left hook of his own that staggers Machida and then another behind it drops him to the mat.

Machida is still dazed as Brunson swarms on him and lands a few hard punches that knock him out cold at 2.30mins of the first round!

So, the 39-year-old Machida’s hopes of a big comeback after two years out crumble in just a few minutes of fighting, while Brunson racks up the biggest win of his career.
