Just days after his biggest win to date over Andrei Arlovski, Jairzinho Rozenstruik has agreed to a short notice fight with another heavyweight legend Alistair Overeem at UFC On ESPN 7 on December 7th in Washington DC.
Rozenstruik took just 29 seconds to KO Arlovski and extend his winning record to 9-0, and having emerged unscathed from the encounter, that’s led to him accepting the opportunity to headline a UFC event for the first time on just a month’s notice.
Overeem had been waiting for a new opponent for the event after Walt Harris pulled out a few days ago due to wanting to focus on the continued search for his missing daughter.
Overeem is coming off back-to-back wins in the Octagon, having TKO’d Sergei Pavlovich and Alexey Oleynik in the first round in the past year.
That helped Overeem get past a disappointing spell in which he was brutally KO’d by Francis Ngannou in the first round and then TKO’d by Curtis Blaydes, leading to the 39-year-old first admitting that thoughts of retirement had entered his head.
Overeem vs. Rozenstruik will front a card that will also feature a co-main event between Cynthia Calvillo and Marina Rodriguez, plus more heavyweight action between Ben Rothwell and Stefan Struve, plus Aspen Ladd vs. Yana Kunitskaya.
