Jon Jones has issued and then deleted a lengthy post on Twitter in which he appears to indicate he’s less than impressed by Tom Aspinall after the rising heavyweight laid out his plan to fight him in the near future.
“Sometimes I feel like I’ve been in a déjà vu, everyone’s going to be the guy to kick my ass,” Jones wrote. “Meanwhile, I’m over here undefeated with a face full of gray hairs.
“Half the time the guys talking the most crap don’t even end up winning their next fight. I’ve been around this game for a long time. Over the years, I’ve learned not to get all impress so quickly. Stick around, win consistently like I have. And then talk your sh*t.
“Everyone’s the next big thing until I beat them. And then it’s like well. Who was that guy anyway? Just a few months ago Gane was the absolute future of MMA. Best foot work, fastest heavy weight we have ever seen. The most athletic. Now everyone’s like who the hell is that guy.”
It’s true that Jones has been there and done that in terms of facing and beating top-flight competition over and over again throughout his career, but that being said, Aspinall’s call-out on the mic after his win over Marcin Tybura was as mild as it gets, simply laying out his intention to fight the winner of Ciryl Gane vs. Sergey Spivak and then go on to face Jones for the title.
And Aspinall suggested that Jones was perhaps taking it all a bit too seriously in his response to the champ’s twitter post, simply replying, “Jon, chill out mate.”
