Jon Jones Submits Ciryl Gane In 1st Round At UFC 285

Jon Jones is the UFC’s new heavyweight champion after making short work of Ciryl Gane in his comeback fight tonight at UFC 285, winning by submission mid-way through the opening round.

Round One:

The wait is over – Jon Jones has finally returned to the Octagon after a three year absence and the main event heavyweight title fight is underway in Las Vegas!

Low kick from Jones to the calf and Gane responds with a kick of his own that lands to the groin and forces a brief stoppage in the opening seconds of the fight.

Thankfully Jones is ok to continue. Right hand for Jones. Jones taking command of the center of the Octagon. He lands another low kick. Now a side kick to the body at close range.

Gane goes for a punch and Jones grabs hold of him and brings him down. Big moment for him. Gane on his knees though and trying to walk over to the cage. Jones looking to keep him on the mat.

Gane standing up, but Jones brings him back down and tries to step into mount while working a guillotine choke. It’s a bit of a cramped position as Gane is sitting up against the cage. Nevertheless, he’s working the choke and he’s got it under the chin tight and Gane is suddenly tapping out at 2.04mins of the first round!

Jones has won in remarkably swift fashion and the former light-heavyweight champion now wins the heavyweight title to further add to a legacy that strengthens his case to go down as the ‘Greatest Of All-Time’.

Jones confirms afterwards that he now intends to defend his title against Stipe Miocic, with the word being it may happen in July.
