Patrick Cote Vs Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson Set For UFC 178

UFC 178’s fight card continues to expand with the addition of a middleweight encounter between Patrick Cote and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.

Coming off a win over fellow TUF: Nations coach Kyle Noke back in April, former 185lb title contender Cote is now 2-0 in the welterweight division and looking to establish himself as a top 15 contender.

Thompson has similar aspirations and has certainly been looking impressive in the Octagon of late with three victories in a row, including a ‘Performance Of The Night’ TKO victory over TUF: Smashes winner Robert Whittaker last time out.

Cote is notoriously hard-headed though, so the former kickboxing champion ‘Wonderboy’ will have to be at his best if he wants to add another highlight reel finish to his resume on the feet, while Cote may also look to test his skills on the mat since that’s been his achilles heel in the past.

At this stage it’s not clear whether this fight will be on the prelims or the pay-per-view card for UFC 178 which takes place on September 27th in Las Vegas and features a headlining light-heavyweight title rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
