Rose Namajunas Vs Jessica Andrade Set For UFC 237

Rose Namajunas Shaved head

Rose Namajunas will attempt to defend her women’s strawweight title against Jessica Andrade at UFC 237 in Brazil on May 11th.

By that stage it will have been over a year since Namajunas last fought, successfully beating former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the second time in a row, although having defeated her by TKO in their first encounter to seize the belt, this time she had to settle for a win on the scorecards.

Since then Namajunas has been on the sidelines recovering from spinal stenosis stemming from a C6 vertebral compression fracture which she had been dealing with since 2017.

Now she will go up against Andrade, who has compiled a three-fight winning streak since losing out by decision in her previous title encounter against Joanna Jedrzejczyk in May of 2017.

Her latest run began with a unanimous decision over Claudia Gadelha then another win on the scorecards against Tecia Torres and most recently a first round KO victory over Karolina Kowalkiewicz that confirmed her to be more than worthy of another shot at the title strap.

Namajunas Vs Andrade is currently the only fight scheduled for the event, which will mark the champions first ever fight outside of the United States in her 11-fight career to date.
