Following last night’s UFC 213 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the exciting main event interim middleweight title fight between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero.
Whittaker suffered a knee injury early in the fight, but did his best to disguise it and fought on through the pain. Nevertheless, he would lose the first two rounds, but as Romero’s output began to fade after that, Whittaker continued to press forward and landed the more meaningful strikes in the later rounds to emerge with a unanimous decision victory.
Chad Laprise earned one of the two ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses after he left it until the third round to step up a gear and produce a TKO finish against Brian Camozzi.
A quality shot to the body had visibily hurt Camozzi and Laprise capitalized with more offense until Camozzi simply curled up in a defensive shell until the referee stoppage.
The other ‘Performance Of The Night’ award went to main card opener Rob Font who impressed against Douglas Silva de Andrade, looking good both on the feet and on the mat on his way to a guillotine choke submission victory late in the second round.
