UFC 220 Bonus Awards

After UFC 220 last night in Boston the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main card scrap between Calvin Kattar and Shane Burgos.

Both fighters were willing to trade blows throughout the fight, but it was Kattar’s cultured jab that was landing most frequently and with considerable impact.

Burgos started to gain momentum in the latter half of the second round though and looked to carry that into the third, but as he’s pressing forward Kattar hurt him with a right hand that hurt him and then put him to the canvas with a huge uppercut, before following up with ground-and-pound for the TKO finish.

Light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier successfully defended his title against Volkan Oezdemir and scooped up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus along the way.

Oezdemir put offensive pressure on the champion in the opening round, but Cormier endured that early storm and then started hurting the challenger with big punches of his own and towards the end of the round was able to get him down and threaten with a rear-naked choke, though it was too late in the round to find a finish.

Now in the ascendancy, Cormier was able to bring Oezdemir back down early in the second and eventually managed to trap him in the crucifix position and landed repeated ground-and-pound strikes until the referee moved in to save his overwhelmed opponent, leading to a TKO victory.

Also scooping up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus was Abdul Razak Alhassan, who violently left Sabah Homasi knocked out cold after landing a hard right hand and then a gigantic uppercut late in the first round of their prelim card encounter.
