Following last night’s UFC 238 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the ‘People’s Main Event’ war between Tony Ferguson and Donald Cerrone.
Both men threw everything but the kitchen sink at each other in the two rounds the fight lasted, with Ferguson having the edge, leaving his opponent bloodied and swollen by the end of the round. Cerrone was still in the fight though and having his moments, so it was a huge disappointment when inbetween round he blew his nose despite having a suspected broken nose, which led to his right eye immediately swelling shut, forcing a doctor’s stoppage TKO win for Ferguson.
Meanwhile, Henry Cejudo earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus as he became the UFC’s latest two-division champion with a third round TKO stoppage victory over Marlon Moraes to win the vacant bantamweight title.
It required a strong performance from Cejudo, who came off second best to Moraes in the first round and was being badly punished by low kicks, but he came out strong in the second round, pushing the pace more and began to get the better of Moraes in the striking battle, which would eventually lead to him earning a ground and pound stoppage in the third round.
Also earning a performance bonus on the night was another champion, Valentina Shevchenko who successfully defended her flyweight title with a devastating head kick knockout early in the second round against Jessica Eye that worryingly left the challenger unconscious for several minutes afterwards.
