UFC 249 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 249 event in Jacksonville, Florida the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the incredibly punishing main event battle between Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson.

While both men landed big shots there’s no doubt that the lions share of them were thrown by Gaethje, who landed some thunderous left hooks in the early rounds and later was also finding a home for equally vicious right hands, yet somehow Ferguson would remain standing.

It was an incredible, but troubling display of toughness and so it was somewhat of a relief when the referee eventually waved off the fight late in the fifth round after one blow rang Ferguson’s bell so hard that he was seen shaking his head as if trying to regain his bearings.

Gaethje’s performance was so impressive from start to finish that it also earned him one of the two ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses too.

Meanwhile, Francis Ngannou also scooped up a performance bonus after he took just 20 seconds to knock out Jairzinho Rozenstruik, charging at him with wild strikes in the opening exchange and finding a home for a blistering left hook that sunk his opponent to the canvas against the cage.
