Following UFC Fight Night 234 in Las Vegas last night the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
For their first show of 2024 the UFC brass opted to dish out four ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses, and main event winner Magomed Ankalaev was among them after a knockout victory in his rematch with Johnny Walker .
The finish came mid-way through the second round as Ankalaev connected with a heavy right hook that sat Walker down, while a follow-up punch while he was still grounded appeared to break his opponent’s nose, leading the ref to rush in and declare it a knockout.
Also earning a performance bonus was co-main event winner Jim Miller, who at 40-years-old continues to defy the aging process by getting the better of Gabriel Benitez and ultimately submitting him with a face crank in the final round, leaving the veteran with five wins from his last six Octagon outings.
Brunno Ferreira also earned a performance award for his KO finish of Phil Hawes five seconds before the end of the opening round, catching him with a flying knee followed by a left hand to put him down, with a few ground-and-pound blows then sealing the knockout finish.
The final performance bonus of the night went to Marcus McGhee who kept his foot on the gas throughout his fight with Gaston Bolanos until he rocked his opponent badly enough while still standing in the 2nd round to secure a TKO stoppage win.
