Following the conclusion of last night’s UFC On FOX 29 event in Arizona the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
The ‘Fight Of The Night’ on this occasion was easy to pick out as the main event between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje was as good a striking battle as we’ve seen in 2018 so far.
Both fighters gave their all in the fight and sustained a lot of damage along the way, with Gaethje having a lot of success with heavy leg kicks, while Poirier’s crisp combinations gradually took their toll, until eventually in the fourth round ‘The Highlight’ was rocked and despite staying on his feet was wobbled enough while still taking hard shots that the ref rightly stepped in to end the fight.
Co-main event winner Alex Oliveira earned one of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards after his decision to step in on short notice to fight Carlos Condit paid off.
‘Cowboy’ was able to open up a nasty cut on Condit’s face in the second round of the fight, but it was soon after when ‘The Natural Born Killer’ took him to the mat that he landed an upkick that seemed to rock his opponent and led to him cinching up a fight-ending guillotine choke submission.
Meanwhile, Adam Wieczorek also earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus thanks to recording only the second omaplata submission in UFC history against Arjan Bhullar.
