Wang Cong, aka ‘The Joker’, made her UFC debut in spectacular fashion on Saturday night at UFC On ESPN 62 with a first round KO victory over Victoria Leonardo in the prelims, but has since expressed her disappointment that she wasn’t incuded in the post-fight bonus awards.
“Wake up and find out there is no POTN [Performance Of The Night],” Cong stated on Instagram. “Next fight you will see more spectacular finish @ufc. Don’t play with Joker again!”
The 32-year-old Cong’s comment didn’t fall on deaf ears as it caught the attention of Dana White himself, who went on to praise her performance and assure her that she would now be getting a $50,000 bonus after all.
“I was out of town and watch the fight @mystiqueboston on TV,” White replied on Instagram. “You looked AMAZING. I’m adding another PON bonus for u. Congrats u get 50k.”
“I love you Dana,” the delighted Cong responded.
It’s a wise move on White’s part to acknowledge Cong as she is not just your average new recruit to the UFC’s flyweight ranks.
That’s because in addition to her undefeated 6-0 record, which includes a win on the Road To UFC series, she is also a former long-time kickboxer who hold a decision victory over none other than former long-time UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko back in 2015.
And of course Cong’s clean right hand KO finish of Leonardo just 62 seconds into her UFC debut on Saturday night, which you can watch below, has now ensured that she’s one to watch in the 125lb division going forward.
