In the main event of the evening, Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire emerged victorious against Michael Chandler to claim the lightweight title, but the finish was controversial.
Freire, who is also Bellator’s featherweight champion, floored Chandler with a right hand behind the ear in the opening minute of the fight and then landed more ground and pound blows to produce a 61 second knockout victory, but Chandler instantly got back up, suggesting the stoppage was premanture.
Meanwhile, Douglas Lima handed Michael ‘Venom’ Page his first ever defeat courtesy of a brutal second round knockout, initially knocking him off his feet with a hard leg kick, and then blasting him with an uppercut as he tried to stand back up again.
Elsewhere, AJ McKee improved his unbeaten record to 14-0 with a unanimous decision win over Pat Curran, while former WWE star Jack Swagger, aka Jake hager claiming a first round arm triangle choke victory over TJ Jones to go 2-0.
