Kamaru Usman Is The Standby For Tyron Woodley Vs Darren Till At UFC 228

The UFC are taking no chances with the upcoming welterweight title fight between Tyron Woodley and Darren Till at UFC 228 in Dallas, Texas on September 8th, as they’ve drafted in Kamaru Usman to serve as a standby in case anything happens to either of the two headliners.

“Just a deep feeling in my soul, September 8th I will be the new welterweight champion of the world!!!” Usman, who is currently on an 8-fight winning streak, wrote on Twitter, signalling his belief that one of the two fighters may end up dropping from the bout.

However, this doesn’t neccessarily mean that the UFC are expecting a switch-up in opponent, it’s just part of what appears to be an abundance of caution due to previous situations where fighters have fallen out of big fights on short-notice.

That being said though, in Till’s case there is some cause for concern given that he came in overweight for his last fight with Stephen Thompson and had also previously missed weight last year as well.

This time Till has assured fans that he will be on weight however for the biggest fight of his life.

“I am going to make weight, even if I have to kill myself and be 10 percent, 20 percent worse on fight day,” Till said. “I’m going to make that 170 mark. That’s my fight. My fight’s not the fight. I don’t give a f— about Tyron Woodley. My fight is the weight.”
