Thaigo Moises To Fight Melquizael Costa On Short-Notice At UFC 283

Thiago Moises has a new opponent for UFC 283 in Brazil on January 21st as he’s now scheduled to face newcomer Melquizael Costa on just a couple of weeks notice.

The 27-year-old Moises had originally been scheduled to fight Guram Kutateladze, but the UFC had to revise their plans after his opponent withdrew for reasons that haven’t been revealed so far.

Moises is looking to build on a first round submission win over Christos Giagos last time out in July of last year.

Prior to that Moises has lost two fights in a row inside the distance, having been submitted by Islam Makhachev and then TKO’d by Joel Alvarez.

Leaves Moises with a 5-4 record overall in the UFC so far as he prepares to face the debuting Costa, a 26-year-old with a 19-5 career record who is coming off a TKO win in the LFC promotion back in November.

Moises vs. Costa appears on a UFC 283 line-up that will be headlined by a fight for the vacant light-heavyweight title between Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill, while a fourth encounter between flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and his rival Brandon Moreno features in the co-main event, and opening up the PPV will be Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua’s final fight before retirement against Ihor Potieria.
