A women’s bantamweight rematch between Raquel Pennington And Irene Aldana will headline UFC Fight Night 224 in Las Vegas on May 20th.
The two veterans of the weight class first fought at UFC On ESPN 4 in 2019, with Pennington emerging victorious via split-decision on that occasion.
The 34-year-old Pennington would lose to Holly Holm in her next fight, but since then she’s gone on a five-fight unbeaten run, during which time she’s beaten a string of bantamweight notables including Marion Reneau, Pannie Kianzad, May Chiasson, Aspen Ladd and most recently Ketlen Vieira to seize the No.2 spot in the 135lb rankings.
As for the 35-year-old Aldana, following her loss to Pennington she has compiled a 4-1 record, and coincidentally her only loss during that period also came against Holly Holm.
Beyond that though Aldana has secured wins over Vanessa Melo, ketlen Vieira, Yana Kunitskaya and most recently Macy Chiasson, and notably the last three of those victories all came by way of strikes, leaving her ranked No.5.
Pennington vs. Aldana 2 will headline a UFC Fight Night 224 show at the APEX facility in Las Vegas that will also include the likes of Carlos Diego Ferreira vs. Michael Johnson, Edmen Shahbazyan vs. Anthony Hernandez and Andre Fialho vs. Joaquin Buckley.
