Dana White might have indicated last weekend that Gilbert Burns is the first name on his list to fill the vacant co-main event spot at UFC 288 next month, but it seems that that Paulo Costa and Jan Blachowicz are trying to take it instead.
“May 6 ppv event is in trouble,” Costa wrote on Twitter yesterday. “Jan blachowicz vs Costa could be the salvation. I go up 205 on all juice 🥤 . Let me know. @ufc.”
“There is not only rumors guyZ. Hunter Campbell has called, I think both sides has agreed 👍,” Costa added. “Let’s set the detail$. There is eventual moving up, I could make 185 without issues. Gourmet chenchen [Khamzat Chimaev] only can fight in October in Dubai so it’s fine.
Former light-heavyweight champion Blachowicz has since confirmed that he did get an offer from the UFC, but blames Costa for the fact that it’s not been booked.
“So a few days ago @BorrachinhaMMA got offered to fight me,” Blachowicz posted. “I’ve said YES, he said – NO. The fight is OFF. How much juice does he need? 1 bottle of wine is enough to knock out this guy.
However, Costa claims that he’s ready to go and that it’s Blachowicz who is standing in the way of the fight happening.
“I don’t like to say somebody is ducking me or this kind stuffs, maybe he is injured or fatty than me, I really dont know,he should has his reasons,” Costa stated. “I just know FAT PAULO IS READY to GO IN may 6. It’s a perfect match, don’t need to cut to much weight. I’m in all day.”
So far Blachowicz hasn’t responded to that, so we’ll have to wait and see whether anything comes of it or not, with it now being just a little over two weeks until UFC 288 takes place in New Jersey.
