Armen Petrosyan was able to oustrike Christian Leroy Duncan tonight at UFC On ESPN 47 to earn a unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Duncan with an early spinning head kick attempt that misses. CLD with a leg kick and Petrosyan throws a couple of hard strikes in return.
Dynamic offense from Duncan and a solid kick from Petrosyan in response. Flurry of punches in close from both men.
Spinning kick misses from Duncan and Petrosyan lands a kick. Leg kick for Duncan. Petrosyan with a leg kick too now. Grazing punches land from Petrosyan in close.
Kick from Duncan partially caught by Petrosyan but he fails in his attempt to work a takedown off of it.
Missed spinning backfist from Duncan. Inside leg kick from Petrosyan. Right hand for him. Calf kick from Duncan.
Hard inside low kick and one to the outside from Petrosyan. Again he lands to the outside of the leg. Nice check right hook for Petrosyan as Duncan pressed forward.
Petrosyan with a leg kick and a punch from Duncan. Jumping kick to the knee from CLD. Spinning kick to the chest from Petrosyan. CLD slightly turns his back to Petrosyan as if he’s setting something up, but doesn’t unleash it before the horn sounds.
Round Two:
Inside leg kick from Duncan. One-two from Petrosyan and a ick too. Leg kick for CLD and a punch. Duncan attempts a takedown that doesn’t pay off.
Low kick and a jab from Petrosyan. Duncan tried for a spinning attack, but it enables Petrosyan to take his back standing, but he soon lets go.
Calf kick from Petrosyan and a one-two behind it. Glancing right hook from him. Duncan checks a leg kick from Petrosyan.
Push kick to the body from Duncan. Calf kick for Petrosyan. Now a body kick from him lands solidly. Leg kick from Duncan but eats a counter punch from Petrosyan.
Calf kick for Petrosyan. Duncan just missing with a spinning head kick. Body kick and a couple of punches from Duncan and CLD looked little unsteady after that. Petrosyan attacks again and Duncan almost sinks to the mat, then ends up in the clinch.
They move out of the clinch, but Duncan goes back into the clinch soon afterwards. Petrosyan turns into him against the cage.
Not too much happening from there and they separate. Leg kick for Petrosyan as CLD threatens with punches. Duncan back into the clinch and trying to manhandle Petrosyan to the mat. Instead it’s Petrosyan who ends up on top and stands over his opponent to land a few punches before the round ends.
Round Three:
Body kick for Duncan. Now a leg kick. He misses with a spinning backfist. Solid leg kick and a body kick from Petrosyan.
Inside leg kick for Petrosyan. Low kick from him. Body kick for Petrosyan. Now a body punch from Petrosyan and back to chipping away at the lead leg with kicks.
CLD works into the clinch against the cage, but Petrosyan gradually reverses the position. He attempts a spinning back elbow but Duncan avoids it and gets away.
Elbow lands for Duncan, but Petrosyan responds by taking him to the mat. Petrosyan inside Duncan’s closed guard and bleeding from a cut to his left eye. CLD attempts to work a triangle choke and moves to his knees then stands with Petrosyan clinched to his back.
Duncan turns into him and they break out of the clinch in the closing stages of the round.
Decision:
Duncan had some slick movement and flashy techniques here, but Petrosyan proved to be the more effective striker overall and earns himself a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 29-28 x2).
