Following last night’s UFC 291 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
On this occasion the UFC opted to go with 4 ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards and it’ll come as a shock to no one that ‘BMF’ title-winner Justin Gaethje was one of them after he landed a picture-perfect head kick to knock out Dustin Poirier in the 2nd round of the main event.
Derrick Lewis got back to winning ways in style on the main card when he opted to launch into a flying knee as his first strike of the night against Marcos Rogerio de Lima and floored him with it. ‘The Black Beast’ then blasted away with ground-and-pound to seal a TKO stoppage only 33 seconds into the fight.
Meanwhile, Bobby Green left it late to find a finish against Tony Ferguson, appearing to be on the verge of victory on the scorecards when he managed to stuff a last-gasp takedown attempt, secure top position and then set-up an arm-triangle choke that saw Ferguson momentarily pass out with just 6 seconds to go on the clock.
Also claiming a performance bonus was another main card fighter Kevin Holland, who put Michael Chiesa down with a knee upstairs mid-way through the opening round and then found a finish via a d’arce choke submission.
