Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 228 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
‘Fight Of The Night’ honors went to the prelim card scrap between Tim Means and Andre Fialho, which as expected delivered plenty of back-and-forth action that resulted in both having to fight through adversity at times. In the end though it was Means who was able to turn up the heat in the final round, first troubling his opponent with a head kick, then following up with more strikes behind it including a big knee to the chin, before a few follow-up punches sent him to the canvas to secure a TKO victory.
Marina Rodriguez earned one of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards after her main card rematch against Michelle Waterson-Gomez turned into a one-sided beatdown.
Rodriguez was viciously effective with her muay thai striking at range and from the clinch, managing to land multiple knees to the head along the way that soon left ‘The Karate Hottie’ soaked in blood. Towards the end of the first round it felt like the ref should be stepping in to put her out of her misery, but he didn’t and Waterson-Gomez was refusing to give up. That only led to further punishment in the second round though as Rodriguez continued where she left off for a further two-and-a-half minutes until the TKO stoppage.
Charles Jourdain scooped up the other performance bonus after he was able to counter Ricardo Ramos’ early wrestling pressure in the opening round by going for a guillotine choke during a scramble, forcing his opponent to tap out.
