Derek Brunson has signed up to compete in PFL’s 2024 light-heavyweight tournament after recently leaving the UFC.
The 39-year-old Brunson’s departure from the UFC had taken everyone by surprise given that he actually had a fight booked against Roman Dolidze at UFC 295 in November, only for it to suddenly be scrapped last month due to the fighter abruptly leaving the promotion.
That fight was apparently the last on his contract with the UFC however, and it seems that the decision to call it quits had been mutual.
Brunson had then attempted to rekindle a prior call-out from Jake Paul dating back a couple of years, but as many predicted that went nowhere and so now he seems to have settled on calling PFL his new home instead.
“New kid on the block,” Brunson announced on X. “BLONDE BRUNSON 2.0. Million dollar tournament incoming ! I started focusing more on my road work for the first time in my career . Only up ! #PFL @PFLMMA.”
Brunson is coming into the PFL off back-to-back losses in the Octagon against Jared Cannonier and Dricus du Plessis, both of which came via strikes. However, Brunson had been on a five-fight winning streak prior to that, including victories over the likes of Darren Till, Kevin Holland and Edmen Shahbazyan.
