Just a fortnight away from his UFC 294 showdown with Khamzat Chimaev, middleweight star Paul Costa has revealed that he’s only three weeks removed from having had elbow surgery.
Despite the troublingly short amount of recovery time in the middle of his training camp, the 32-year-old Costa insists that the fight is still on.
“How strong are u? U never really know until you get tested by fire of life,” Costa wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of his elbow.
“I did surgery 3 weeks ago , [10 stitches]. But I know how tough I’m and continues improving and overcoming myself. It doesn’t stop me, still doing my things sparrings and everything. I’m so blessing , Gods gives me exceptional condition, and surrounded my by great peoples ”
Clearly it’s a far from ideal situation ahead of one of his biggest fights to date against the still unbeaten Chimaev, who is current 12-0, with six of those coming during his time in the UFC.
Along the way Chimaev has beaten the likes of Kevin Holland, Gilbert Burns and Li Jingliang and is now looking to make a push for title contention in the middleweight division.
As for Costa, the former title contender is ranked No.6 in the division after beating Luke Rockhold in his last fight following on from two losses prior to that.
Costa vs. Chimaev serves as the co-main event for UFC 294, which will be headlined by a lightweight title rematch between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira.
