Former flyweight title contender Jennifer Maia has been released from the UFC following her unanimous decision loss to Viviane Araujo at last weekend’s UFC Fight Night 230 event.
The loss to Araujo has been the final fight on the 35-year-old Maia’s current deal and the promotion have opted not to re-sign her, meaning she’s now a free agent.
Maia initially joined the UFC back in 2018 after a stint as flyweight champion in the Invicta FC promotion. She went on to experience mixed results in the promotion during her five year run, but did manage to fight for the 125lb title back in 2020, losing out by unanimous decision to Valentina Shevchenko.
Maia had won two fights in a row prior to her latest loss, leaving her with an overall UFC record of 6-6, with her victories during that time coming over notable opponents such as Casey O’Neill, Maryna Moroz, Jessica Eye, Joanne Wood, Roxanne Modafferi and Alexis Davis.
