Sean Brady essentially dominated Kelvin Gastelum from start to finish with his wrestling and grappling ability tonight at UFC On ESPN 52, then put the icing on the cake with a kimura submission finish in the third round.
Round One:
Gastelum with a low kick. He throws an overhand that misses. They clinch up and Gastelum works for a couple of knees. Brady pressing him towards the cage though and starts working for a takedown.
Brady nicely lands a takedown and quickly takes the back. Brady rolls to his back and then gets the body lock in with a lot of time to work.
Brady thinking about the rear-naked choke, but Gastelum does a very good job of turning into him and gets on top. Brady able to get back to his feet though and soon after clips Gastelum with a punch.
Straight punch from Brady lands. Gastelum misses a power punch and Brady lands a punch of his own and flows straight into a successful takedown.
Brady goes to the back as Gastelum as on his knees. Brady with a few punches as Gastelum is trying to figure a way back to his feet. He does stand, but Brady drags him straight back down to his knees.
Bit of a scramble now and Gastelum can’t get away, with Brady rolling to his back with hooks in, and that’s where the round ends.
Round Two:
Grazing right hand for Gastelum. Leg kick attempt from Brady. He lands a better calf kick now. Great takedown off a kick by Brady.
Brady in half-guard here in the center of the Octagon. Brady steps into full mount now, but Gastelum does quickly bring him back to half-guard. Brady works his way back to mount and Gastelum gives up his back. He gets to his knees, but Brady puts him back to his back and is now in mount once again.
Gastelum trying desperately to scramble out of this, almost gives up his back and then does get to his knees. Brady happily controlling his back still though. Gastelum able to sit with his back against the cage and Brady cinches his legs. Gastelum trying to get away but Brady is in the driving seat here and keeps him down as the round comes to a close.
Round Three:
Leg kick for Brady. Gastelum darts into a punch that lands. Brady bursts into a takedown and makes it look effortless as he lands it.
Brady in half-guard and then moves into mount while immediately working for an arm-triangle. He tries to step off to the side with it, but can’t quite manage. Now he goes to side control and works for a kimura. He does a good job of cranking it and forces Gastelum to tap out!
A strong display of wrestling and grappling from Brady here to completely dominate Gastelum and earn a kimura submission victory at 1.43mins of the third round.
