A women’s bantamweight fight between Katlyn Chookagian and Maycee Barber has been announced for UFC 299 on March 9th.
The 34-year-old Chookagian’s title contention hopes were dashed last time out when she was beaten on the scorecards by Manon Fiorot at UFC 280 over a year ago.
That had ended Chookagian’s four-fight winning streak in the division, which had seen her beat the likes of Amanda Ribas, Jennifer Maia, Viviane Araujo and Cynthia Calvillo, leaving her placed at No.4 in the bantamweight rankings.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Barber has racked up a five-fight winning streak over the past few years, defeating the likes of Amanda Ribas, Andrea Lee, Jessica Eye, Montana De La Rosa and Miranda Maverick along the way to reach No.7 in the rankings.
Chookagian vs. Barber joins a UFC 299 card that’s set to be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between current champion Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera, while Pedro Munhoz vs. Kyler Phillips has also been announced for the card, which is still in it’s fledgling stages and doesn’t yet have a confirmed location.
