Jim Miller continues to defy the aging process with a convincing win over Gabriel Benitez tonight at UFC Fight Night 234 that was capped off with a third round submission.
Round One:
Jab for Benitez. One-two for him. He lands the jab again. A low kick lands nicely too. Solid couple of punches land for Miller now.
Miller with an overhand that comes up short, but then continues to march forward landing to the body and then punches upstairs.
Leg kicks exchanged. Another low kick for Miller. Straight left for Benitez. Benitez with a one-two but comes off the guard. Benitez slips off a kick but pops straight back up.
left hook for Benitez. He misses on a head kick. Both land a punch at the same time. Miller with a punch and Benitez backs up.
Miller coming forward with more punches. Both go for leg kicks. Punches from Benitez and Miller returns with the same and follows up with a low kick.
Straight punch and a knee to the body from Miller and then into the clinch against the cage. They break apart soon after though.
Benitez working the one-two but coming off the guard. Low kick for Miller. Now a head kick from Miller that’s blocked.
Light double-jab for Benitez. Stepping right hand for Miller. Triple jab and a left hand behind it for Benitez. Right hand and a low kick for Miller.
Round Two:
Benitez working a series one-two’s to start. Low kicks from Miller. Leg kick for Benitez. Solid left hand for Miller. Miller lands the left again and more behind it, but Benitez connects too.
Inside low kick from Benitez. Low kicks from Miller. One-two for Miller. Solid one-two for Benitez too now. Good body punch for Miller.
left hand and a grazing uppercut from Miller. Now an elbow from him. Benitez looking to get his own striking going, but Miller then transitions nicely into a takedown and lands it.
Miller working in Benitez guard close to the cage. A couple of hooks and an elbow from Miller. Now Benitez is working for an armbar, but Miller gets free of that and stays on top in his guard. Miller postured over him. Benitez tries to kick him off, but Miller comes back down with a nice punch and then takes his back.
Final minute of the round and Miller has the body triangle in as he tries to set up a possible rear-naked choke. Miller taking his time though and is happy to just get some more control time in the time remaining.
Round Three:
Punch for Benitez. Now an inside leg kick. Nice left hand for Miller. Benitez with a right hook and jab. Right hand and a leg kick from Miller.
Another left hand for Miller. Body punch for Benitez. Low kick and a right hand for Benitez. Solid leg kick for Miller.
Punch and another chopping leg kick for Miller. Light series of punches from Benitez. Leg kick for Miller. Low kick and a straight punch for Benitez.
Right hand lands for Miller. Now a right from Benitez. Jab and a hook for him. Grazing right hook from Miller.
Brief flurry of punches and a leg kick for Miller. Now a takedown for the veteran. Benitez trying to scramble, but Miller welcomes that and moves to the back. Miller soon has the hooks in and works for a rear-naked choke, but it’s more of a face crank that forces Benitez to quickly tap out at 3.25mins of the third round!
Great win for Miller that would appear to set the veteran up nicely for a fight at UFC 300 in April as he’d been hoping for.
