A middleweight fight between Jared Cannonier and Caio Borralho will headline UFC On ESPN 62 on August 24th in Las Vegas.
Unusually fans have had to wait until just 18 days out from the event before UFC officials finally got around to installing this as the main event for the show, giving the two fighters less than three weeks to prepare for the showdown.
The 40-year-old Cannonier had headed into this year off back-to-back wins over Sean Strickland and Marvin Vettori and had been hoping to push back into title contention, but was then TKO’d by Nassourdine Imavov in early June, leaving him ranked No.5 in the division.
As for Borralho, this is the big opportunity the 31-year-old has been waiting for to attempt to burst into the division’s top 10 rankings after compiling five wins in a row in the UFC so far.
Along the way he’s defeated the likes of Armen Petrosyan, Makhmud Muradov, MichaĆ Oleksiejczuk and most recently Paul Craig, but has had to settle for the No.12 spot at 185lbs.
Cannonier vs. Borralho front a UFC On ESPN 62 card that will also feature Gerald Meerschaert vs. Edmen Shahbazyan, Neil Magny vs. Michael Morales and Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci.
