Dustin Poirier Wants Justin Gaethje Trilogy For Retirement Fight

Dustin Poirier is going to have at least one more fight in the UFC before hanging up his gloves, and he’s already got an opponent and a destination in mind for his swan song.

“I will fight again,” Poirier confirmed on the Ariel Helwani show. “It’s just how this thing unfolds. I will see when I do retire. I could be uno mas (one more) or could be dos mas (two more).”

“I had a good meeting at the UFC headquarters. I was out there with Celsius at a trade show and had a good meeting. My goal is to get an event here in Louisiana, whether that’s Lafayette or New Orleans. I want to lay the gloves down where I started fighting, that’s my goal.

“It’s just my opponent availability and what makes sense… My goal is to take my gloves off in Louisiana and retire at home.”

And as for his final opponent, Poirier likes the idea of a trilogy fight with an old rival, Justin Gaethje.

“Me and Gaethje are 1-1, I would love to do the last fight with him in Louisiana. Our first fight was in his backyard, our second fight was in neutral ground, the third one, let’s do it in my backyard.”

Poirier first fought Gaethje in 2018 and emerged with a TKO victory early in the fourth round, but their rematch with the ‘BMF’ title on the line last year didn’t go his way, suffering a 2nd round KO defeat.
