Brian Stann brushed aside Alessio Sakara tonight in Sweden inside a round, delivering a KO finish on the ground after having hurt Sakara badly on the feet first.
Stann started the fight at a measured pace and seemed content to just land the occasional leg kick and then get back out of Sakara’s range.
That methodical gameplan didn’t last long though as Stann suddenly turned on beast mode as the two trade in close.
A flurry of punches from Stann has Sakara in trouble and he then follows it up by going for the thai clinch and banging two knees to the Italian’s face which drops him to the mat.
Stann launches in for the finish, but Sakara’s still able to defend himself on the ground and appears to have at least partially weathered the storm.
‘The All-American’ has other plans however and from inside Sakara’s guard he clips him with an elbow strike and then hammers him with two powerful left hooks which glaze his eyes over.
Stann stops punching with his opponent clearly out, though Sakara then regains conciousness just as the referee swoops in to stop the fight. It’s the right call though and Stann emerges as a worthy winner.
Impressive stuff from Stann, and leaves us in little doubt that he has some serious punching power for a middleweight fighter.
