Young rising bantamweight star Michael McDonald produced a massive win in his biggest fight to date as he knocked out former WEC champion Miguel Torres inside the first round.
McDonald clearly wasn’t intimidated by the far more experienced Torres and took the fight to him from the opening bell.
Before long he had Torres up against the cage as he pressed forward with a flurry of strikes, but Torres utilized good head movement to avoid the danger and work his way out of the dangerous situation.
They start to exchange again and Torres mouthpiece comes out forcing a brief stoppage.
Then they get back to it and McDonald wobbles Torres with a big uppercut and follows it up with another that has his opponent knocked out before he hits the canvas, though he does land a couple of ground and pound strikes before the referee has time to step in and bring an end to the fight with 3.18mins of the first round gone.
Very impressive stuff from the 21 year-old, becoming only the second fighter to KO Torres in nearly 50 professional fights and proves that he is the real deal and potentially a future title challenger in the division.
It’s a massive blow for Torres however who as recently as 2009 had been beaten just once in 38 fights, but has lost four since then and is currently just 2-2 in the UFC.
