Mike Tyson Has Sympathy For Jon Jones Plight After DUI Charge

Boxing legend Mike Tyson knows more than most about the perils and pitfalls that come with the fame and fortune of the fight game, and in a new interview he gives his thoughts on UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones recent brush with the law after being arrested for DUI after crashing his Bentley in New York last weekend.

The concern for many observers now is whether this was a one-time incident, or if it’s a signal that Jones career is heading off the rails. Tyson believes that’s it’s the people around the prodigeous young talent that will influence which path he chooses.

“No.1 in incidents like this, it basically turns into support system. A guy like me when I was living my life I had millions of dollars, but I didn’t have a support system. I had a bad support system so I received bad support. So in an incident like this we don’t know.”

Tyson doesn’t say whether he thinks he’ll get back on the straight and narrow or not, but he’s certainly rooting for him.

“We’re going to find out from this situation if going to continue to make us love him for his great fighting and the way he carries himself as a great individual and humanitarian, or if he’s going to let the bright lights and the dark shadows invade his life and he’s going to just be one of those rising meteors that we saw fly through the air and light the world up and then he dies down in a moment.

“I hope not, because we all respect Jon and Jon appears to be a very nice guy and a respectful guy. I just hope for the best for him.”
