Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le notched up another notable milestone in his career last night as he claimed his first victory in the UFC over Patrick Cote.
Afterwards the 40 year-old was asked whether he would continue fighting or, with his acting career taking off, would he now be happy to call it a day and hang up his gloves.
“I’m not sure right now,” Le stated. “I’m just going to enjoy this win right now and just heal up and see what happens.”
Immediately White jumped in to only half-jokingly add, “What he meant was, ‘I’m going to go back, get back in the gym, and I’d love to fight in China. I’m translating for Cung.”
To his credit Le followed his boss’s lead.
“Yeah, that’s what’s going to happen. I’m going to go back in the gym and get ready for China.”
Le might not have been serious, but White clearly does see him as an ideal candidate to take an important role in the UFC’s first visit to China in November for ‘UFC On Fuel TV 6’.
Obviously the fact that Le is Vietnamese means he should crossover well with the Asian audience and he’s a big enough name to headline the show, but more than that he also has strong ties with the Chinese martial art of Sanshou, so it’s a perfect fit.
