Long-time UFC lightweight contender Clay Guida has announced that he’s decided to move down to the featherweight division.
“It will be nice to finally be one of the bigger guys in the cage,” Guida said of the move. “I don’t cut weight at 155, and making 145 will be no problem for me. My fans will get to see The Dude put some royal beatings on everyone in the division. I will not be satisfied until the Featherweight belt is mine.”
The switch comes after Guida suffered back-to-back losses to Ben Henderson and Gray Maynard at lightweight which essentially shut down his title aspirations in the division.
Meanwhile, another lightweight who recently cut to featherweight, TUF: The Smashes coach Ross Pearson, has revealed that his short stay in the division is over.
It was already known that he was going to be fighting George Sotiropoulos at 155lbs at the end of the current season of TUF, but after that he’s opted to continue on in that division. He says that he didn’t enjoy the weight-cutting process to make 145lbs and feel it detracted from his performances.
Pearson went 1-1 during his time at featherweight and is currently 5-2 at lightweight in the UFC.
