Former UFC fighter Mirko Cro Cop may have hung up his MMA gloves, but he still has a desire to compete and so he’s returned to his kickboxing roots where he’s managed to get back to winning ways.
Cro Cop was drawn against Randy Blake in the last 16 of the K-1 World Grand Prix 2012 at the weekend and he managed to secure a decision victory to progress to the quarter-finals.
This was his third win in a row since getting back into the ring, but that unbeaten run was threatened at one stage in his latest contest during a bizarre sequence of events in the third round.
It started when Blake attempted a spinning back kick to the mid-section, but ended up colliding with the Croatian and falling to the floor. As he got back upright Cro Cop appeared to sucker punch him with an uppercut – not illegal, but certainly unsporting.
Accepting his mistake Cro Cop went over to apologize to Blake, only for his opponent to return the favor by sucker punching him with a big shot that dumped the 38 year-old to the canvas.
He was able to recover quickly though and was able to fight on for the remainder of the bout, handing Blake his first loss in the process.
Cro Cop will now move on to face Catalin Morosanu (33-5) in the next round on December 26th in New York.
